Features

The Jet DC-1100CK's totally enclosed, fan-cooled, 1.5-horsepower motor features a finned cast iron heat dissipation case and is permanently lubricated and rated for continuous duty. The maintenance-free motor comes pre-assembled to the blower section and is complemented by a pre-installed industrial-quality switch panel. Its canister can be installed and removed without tools thanks to the large ergonomic knobs that are easy to handle.

The Jet DC-1100CK uses a high-tech canister filter element that catches 99 percent of particles as small as 2 microns in diameter. To help maintain performance, a set of "hands" operated by a large top-mounted handle wipes across the filter element pleats within the canister, freeing built-up dust and sending it to the catch bag below.

The Jet DC-1100CK comes equipped with a quick-install collection bag with elastic band for speedy installation and removal. The all-steel base is equipped with four free-swiveling casters that allow for easy movement in any direction. An optional remote control uses radio frequency for connectivity, avoiding the need to be in line-of-sight to turn the machine on and off. It's backed by a 5-year limited warranty.

JDS Company 14040 Dust-Force 1-1/2-Horsepower 1,250 CFM Vertical Bag Dust Collector, 110/220-Volt Pre-Wired 110-Volt Overview

Tired of making do with your wet/dry shop vacuum? We don’t blame you. Step up to this JDS collection system make all the sawdust you want. After the initial setup (which is a little tedious but not taxing), it’s all but maintenance-free; just empty the bag when it’s full.

This unit moves 1,250 cubic feet of air every minute – that’s equivalent to exchanging all the air in a room that’s 12 by 13 feet with 8-foot ceilings in 60 seconds. That’s pretty impressive. The top bag filters particles down to 1 micron – one millionth of a meter – keeping your shop air clean and clear. On the bottom is a replaceable clear plastic bag that lets you see exactly how much is in your collector, and we like the choice of either throwing the bag away with the contents or emptying it out and reusing it. It’s got a 42-gallon capacity, so unless you’re making chips eight hours a day, it likely won’t need emptying too often. We’d recommend not letting it get full, though, because 42 gallons of sawdust is no picnic to lift.

The motor is wired for 110-volt service, a standard household outlet, but it’s easily rewired for 220 volts, depending on your shop setup. It’s got an abundance of power for running one tool at a time, even a planer, but it’s probably not sufficient for more than that. The casters make the unit really mobile, so you can roll it around your shop and connect it to whatever tool you’re using, but the casters could be beefier, we thought. We think you’ll find, though, that after you use this collector for a while, you’ll want to build a system with blast gates and a remote for the unit. It’s a natural progression for tool hounds.

The woodworker who finally ditches the shop vacuum and brings in this JDS collector will wonder why s/he didn’t do it sooner. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Dust Devil - The Final Cut (Limited Collector's Edition) Specifications

As noted by Richard Stanley fans, Dust Devil, the feature following his box-office hit Hardware, failed to find release, and when it did, a terrible edit drastically altered the story. Subversive Sinema has now released the director-approved final cut of Dust Devil, in a box set that also contains Dust Devil's working edit, the film's Sergio Leone-like soundtrack, and three riveting Stanley documentaries: The Secret Glory, Voice of the Moon, and The White Darkness. Dust Devil, a horror story based on the myth of a Namibian serial killer, looks more like a Western. Filmed on location in Africa where the murders allegedly took place, Chelsea Field plays Wendy Robinson, a woman, who under duress of leaving her husband, heads out to the desert to accidentally encounter the Dust Devil (Robert John Burke), a mercy killer who slays depressed women to save them from the dark side. According to locals, the Dust Devil is a demon, enabling Stanley's abiding interest in world folk religions to weigh heavily in on the plot, especially when the town's witch doctor visits the beyond to unlock mysteries, or when the Dust Devil displays a box containing his victims' fingers. The documentaries, however, are most exciting. The White Darkness unravels political and social aspects of Haitian Voudon, including the history of American Imperialism in Haiti, as told by skilled priest and priestess, Altes Paul and Edelle. Voice of the Moon shows footage of Afghani rebels in the late '80s, sans narrator, instead beautifully accompanied by native music and poetry, adding Herzogian emotional effect. The Secret Glory pieces together the story of Otto Rahn, an SS officer who thought he'd located the Holy Grail. In all three films, the authenticity of the subjects reign, making it more difficult to buy the magic's fictionalized version in Dust Devil.
